About Hiroki Shuzo Honten

Hiroki Shuzo Honten (廣木酒造本店) is a brewery in Aizubange (会津坂下町), Kawanuma District, Fukushima Prefecture. Aizubange is a town in the Aizu (会津) region of Fukushima Prefecture.

It has two brands: “Hiroki (飛露喜)” and “Izumikawa (泉川)”. Hiroki (飛露喜) is read “Hiroki”, the same as the company name, but it is written with different kanji. In stores, please look for it by the kanji “飛露喜”. Izumikawa is a brand that has long been familiar to local people.

In October 2019, the company changed from a limited partnership (goshi kaisha) to a stock company (kabushiki kaisha), and its current name is “株式会社廣木酒造本店” (Hiroki Shuzo Honten Co., Ltd.).

Brewery tours are not available (checked on September 30, 2026).

Before Hiroki was born

When the previous head died at the end of the 1990s, 廣木健司, the ninth generation who took over the brewery, even considered closing it. What he made to stake the brewery’s revival on was “Hiroki”, a muroka nama genshu.

Muroka nama genshu is sake that is not filtered after pressing (muroka), not pasteurized, i.e. heated to kill microbes (nama), and not diluted with water to adjust its alcohol content (genshu). This Hiroki gained a strong reputation, and the name of Hiroki Shuzo Honten became known across Japan.

Hiroki and Izumikawa use different ingredients, but the process of making the sake is the same.

Rice from the fields around the brewery

About 70% of the rice Hiroki Shuzo Honten uses is “Gohyakumangoku (五百万石)” grown within a radius of 15 kilometers of the brewery. Gohyakumangoku is one of the varieties of sake rice (rice suited to making sake).

He explains why he uses local rice like this.

“As a local sake, I want to weave the character of the region into the sake.”

「地酒として地域の風土を酒に織り込みたい」 — 廣木健司 (ninth generation of Hiroki Shuzo Honten), from Fukushima Prefecture’s “Fukushima no Sake”

Please check the label for the type and ingredients of each Hiroki and Izumikawa product.

Hiroki Shuzo Honten’s “Hiroki” was among the prize-winning sakes at the Zenkoku Shinshu Kanpyokai (National New Sake Competition) for the Reiwa 7 brewing year (organized by the National Research Institute of Brewing and the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association; announced on May 20, 2026).

Visiting the brewery

Where to buy Hiroki Shuzo Honten’s sake

Hiroki Shuzo Honten does not publish a list of stockists or authorized retailers (tokuyakuten) (checked on September 30, 2026). No official website or official online store of the brewery can be found either.

On the internet, there are many pages that list stores selling Hiroki. However, these are not lists published by the brewery, so this page does not name any stores.

Before you buy

  • Please check the label for the type and ingredients of each Hiroki and Izumikawa product.
  • Whether a store carries the sake, and its stock, differ from store to store. Limited and seasonal products may not arrive at a store, so please check with the store before visiting.
  • For “nama” products that have not been pasteurized, follow the storage temperature shown on the label, and please avoid carrying them around at room temperature for a long time during your trip.
  • If you are taking sake home abroad: Bottles over 100 ml cannot go in your carry-on bag before security screening. Put them in your checked baggage, or buy them at a duty-free shop after security screening. Please check in advance what applies if you have a connecting flight, and the import limits of the country you are arriving in. → Travel tips
